Influencer marketing has emerged as a powerful tool that brands have utilized in efforts to help increase reach to their target audience. Using influencer marketing enables brands to reach specific demographics that they normally would not be able to reach. Brands have been able to target younger generations through influencers on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Influencer marketing uses the power of not only social media, but social influence to help drive consumer purchases for a brand.

Influencer marketing is continuing to be growing in terms of popularity. It is predicted that in 2024, marketers will collectively spend over seven billion dollars on influencers. Looking at influencer marketing, we can easily determine that this type of marketing strategy is continuing to evolve. Some of the popular trends that shapes influencer marketing includes micro-influencers, long-term partnerships, and authenticity. A trend that I will hone in on in this post is micro-influencers. Brands can keep their influencer marketing campaigns up to date through staying in touch with the current trends and demand in the market for their product.

Rise of Micro-Influencers

There is a rise of micro-influencers in the social media marketing world! These are people who have a smaller following, but typically have highly engaged followers who trust in their opinions and recommendations. Micro-influencers are influences who are experts in a particular niche. Brands tend to use micro-influencers because the niche that they are in tends to fall into the target audience of the product that companies are selling. Small businesses tend to look for micro-influencers since they usually fit into their brand messaging, as well being less expensive than influencers with a huge following. The popularity in micro-influencers is growing and it is predicted that they are going to be favored over traditional influencers. The reasoning behind micro-influencers being favored is that their audiences are more engaged in the content that they are posting and that they are more affordable. Overall, micro-influencers are the option to consider as a small business, especially since it will produce more cost-effect results.

Influencer Misconduct

There are risks everywhere, so the fact that there are risks associated with participating in influencer marketing is inevitable. Brands have found that sometimes the influencers that they work with find themselves in tricky situations and in some of these situations the influencer is clashing with the brands values. When this happens, it can put the brand in jeopardy and can lead to serious consequences such as consumers boycotting their brand. Influencer misconduct includes ethical dilemmas, fake followers, and engagement, and even a breach in contract. The risks associated with influencer marketing are for sure scary – especially since it can affect YOUR brand and YOUR consumer base. Brands can avoid these risks through implementation strategies that make sure that the influencers working on their brand are all on the same page. This can be done through clear contracts, open communication, and monitoring their social media pages.

Data-Driven Approaches & Metrics

Influencer marketing is predicted to become even more data driven in the future, meaning that companies will rely heavily on advanced analytics and technology to help measure how effective their influencer campaign is. As influencer marketing matures, it is expected that brands will rely more and on the ROI (return on investments) data that they get from influencer marketing. ROI will help brands see how profitable influencer marketing is for their company. Data driven approaches that are going to be more universally used in influencer marketing are audience segmentation, predictive analysis, AI and machine learning, and fraud detection.

Obtaining, using, and analyzing the data is so important in order for brands to recognize patterns and decide what is working well and what needs to change. Specifically, some types of data that is used to further drive influencer marketing includes:

  •  Influencer discovery is something that brands use to help them identify influencers who are well-known, have a large following, and are well engaged with their target audience. This helps them decide who to hire as an influencer.
  • Campaign performance measurement which is used by brands through using data to track the performance of their influencer marketing campaigns and allow them to take a deeper look into reach and engagement.
  • Campaign optimization is used through brands looking at data to help identify the influencers and content that are the most effective at driving results and making their campaigns more optimized over time.

Overall, as influencer marketing evolves, it is incredibly important that brands are using data to help drive campaigns. Utilizing data they receive from influencer campaigns; they can ensure that they are partnering with the right influencers and creating content that is successfully reaching the right audience.

Conclusion

Influencer marketing is crucial for brands to reach target audiences, through campaigns done on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. However, it comes with risks, but don’t worry! These risks can be easily avoided through contracts and monitoring helps mitigate possible risks. As we look ahead, the future of influencer marketing will be increasingly shaped by data driven insights that help them improve their influencer campaigns, as well as the major role that micro-influencers play in driving successful campaigns.
