UNH AMA student members have the opportunity to meet industry professionals, strengthen their marketing skills, and use these skills to compete against their peers at other colleges. As a part of this year’s AMA Marketing Week, our members got to experience marketing in the real world. Digitas Boston, a global marketing agency with clients such as Victoria’s Secret and Delta, generously hosted our students for a tour of their office and a panel discussion featuring UNH Alumni currently employed at the firm. Members learned about what Digitas has to offer, in addition to some day-to-day insights from their panel members.

Digitas Overview

Founded in 1980, Digitas is an agency dedicated to helping brands more closely connect with consumers. Through expertise in data analysis, brand strategy, content creation, media campaign development, research and development, paid advertising, and marketing automation, they have captured a global network of over 30 countries. With clients such as CVS Health, Victoria’s Secret, Delta, and Goodyear, the firm boasts a diverse portfolio of clients, elevating the effectiveness of their marketing strategies.

The company’s employees are trained to uphold the quality of results Digitas has maintained for nearly half a century. Rooted in fearless, inventive, and generous values instilled in each member of the firm, an inclusive, creative, and people-centered culture pulses through the walls of Digitas each and every day.

Office Tour

Digitas’s Boston office consists of three floors, providing spacious coworking spaces and a calming, carefully design auditorium for meeting. As opposed to the traditional conference room, Digitas utilizes the scenery of Boston to provide a naturally lit, bleacher-style layout for their all-hands meetings and various other large-scale meetings and events. The company takes pride in their initiative to eliminate assigned seating in the workplace, which remains true in this area where employees and executives sit amongst each other in the bleacher-like area during their events.

The floor below houses the company’s primary working space and smaller meeting offices. Featuring both adjoined desk spaces and high-top computer clusters, the working space allows employees to complete their daily tasks in a more comfortable setting. Similarly to their bleacher space, there are no assigned seats throughout this layout, with desk spaces having minimal equipment on them to encourage more face-to-face interaction amongst employees. Oftentimes one could observe junior level associates sitting amongst members of the company’s C-Suite, generating strong internal relationships throughout the firm.

Lastly, the top floor of the office features a large kitchen area, with plenty of seating for employees in addition to a beautiful deck overlooking the city of Boston and the Harbor.

Panel Discussion

Following the tour of the office, our AMA members travelled back to the auditorium for a panel discussion with UNH alumni. Each panelist described their journey from Durham to Digitas, highlighting their roadblocks along the way to reassure our members all paths to success are different. As the discussion continued, they detailed their day-to-day operations, favorite projects, and their overall favorite parts of Digitas. Following the discussion, our members got to network with the panelists.

Concluding Thoughts

This trip to Digitas Boston offered UNH AMA student members an invaluable glimpse into the dynamic world of marketing beyond the classroom. Through an in-depth tour of the agency’s both innovative and collaborative workplace, members gained a deeper understanding of the industry and the diverse opportunities it has to offer. The opportunity to meet experienced professionals, witness a professional work environment, and network with fellow Wildcats reinforced the importance of real-world experience in shaping future marketers.
